Ummekulsoom (Umme) Lalani is from Grapevine, Texas and a graduate of Austin College in Sherman, Texas where she received her BA in International Relations with Honors.
From 2011-2012 she studied in Geneva and Washington D.C. focusing on issues of public policy and international development. She worked as a Pre-Grant Certification Specialist for Medicare and Medicaid at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office for Civil Rights. Her research in Washington D.C. examined barriers to healthcare services for patients with limited English proficiency and disabilities. After graduating in 2013, she became a post-graduate student at the Ismaili Studies (IIS) in London where she focused on a multidisciplinary approach to Islamic studies and humanities. As part of her studies, she conducted field research evaluating a blended learning initiative, which utilizes eLearning in nursing education at the Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan.
