Matthew Ireland


Born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand, Matt began his policy career as an intern at the British High Commission in Wellington, before working as a policy adviser at the New Zealand Ministry of Transport for 3.5 years. His work at the Ministry covered a number of areas including providing advice to Ministers and senior officials on the potential role of emerging transport technologies, and on how to bridge a $4+ billion infrastructure funding deficit between central and local government in Auckland. 

Before coming to Cambridge, Matt spent a year backpacking solo through Asia, the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East and the Balkans, with a brief two month stint back in Auckland doing a contract for local government.

Matt holds Bachelor degrees from the University of Auckland in Economics, International Business and Political Studies, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Public Policy from Victoria University of Wellington. He also did a one-year student exchange at University College Dublin, Ireland
