Wei Xiong Ian Ong

Ian has spent his last 29 years based in Singapore. Looking to expand his expertise to better advise governments, he applied to Cambridge’s MPP programme. Over the past three years, Ian worked with AlphaBeta, a strategy, and economics consultancy that supports governments and the private sector on issues around sustainability, technology, and socio-economic development. Value-addition to clients is important to him and he is proud to have been involved in several projects including helping governments in the Asia-Pacific to grow their digital economies and developing a strategy to promote sustainable urbanisation for Southeast Asian cities. Each of these projects has helped him to better understand the practical challenges facing the region. While in AlphaBeta, he also had the opportunity to work on a project on improving digital financial inclusion in developing economies. He is especially eager to pursue this topic further. Ian also experience working with a chamber of commerce and supported market entry for members of the Singapore business community and the Singapore government. Some countries which he visited as part of his work include Angola, Iran, Kuwait, Iraq, and Mozambique.  “Knowledge is power”, and he is excited to spend his time soaking in new ideas from his professors and peers. You can find him in his spare time either shooting the breeze with friends or enjoying a dram.
