Her recent work has included analysing the impact of privatisation in Australia’s childcare market, before which she led a small research team on a Department of Foreign Affairs programme to promote women’s economic empowerment in Southeast Asia. Isla’s Honours thesis investigated the inequitable impacts of Australian housing policy and made the case for a ‘political economy’ of housing. During her undergraduate studies, Isla spent three months employed in the economics division of Pricewaterhouse Coopers, where she worked on government commissioned projects in areas such as transport and social services. Isla holds a Bachelor of International Studies with First Class Honours and the University Medal in Political Economy from the University of Sydney.
