Naoki graduated with a distinction from the University of Toronto in 2015, where he studied Finance and Economics. After graduation, he returned to Japan and began his policy career as an economist and a statistician at the Bank of Japan. Since joining the bank, he has gained extensive experience working with both economic and financial data. His first assignment involved analysing the stock market, highlighting how policy decisions affect domestic markets and have a significant international impact. This experience led to his most recent position in the Balance of Payments Division, where he analysed Japanese investor’s responses to foreign monetary policy shocks alongside improved the accuracy of statistical estimation methods to assist policymaking. He joined the MPP program at the University of Cambridge to further develop his ability to utilise statistical data for policy analysis and the capacity to implement policies that prevent potential negative impacts.
