Biography

Tomass Pildegovičs (born in 1997 in Riga, Latvia) is a PhD Candidate at the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Cambridge. His research focuses on small state influence in European multilateral organisations, particularly regarding the attempts of the Baltic states to position and assert themselves in the European foreign policy field. Notably, his project’s exposition of Baltic lobbying and coalition-building efforts can be situated in relation to the broader analytical puzzle of exploring how the Baltic states will position themselves amidst the cross-cutting currents of European integration.

Pildegovičs completed his MPhil in Politics and International Relations with Distinction at the University of Cambridge in 2019. He also holds a BA in International Relations with First Class Honours (2018) from the Department of War Studies, King’s College London.

Tomass has previously served as a Senior Expert at the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence. Prior to that, he worked as a Policy Advisor in the European Parliament, focusing on issues related to foreign interference in democratic processes, hybrid threats, and EU-Russia relations.

In 2024, Tomass was named a Transatlantic Denton Fellow by the Center for European Policy Analysis, while in 2023, he was selected as a New Security Leader by the Warsaw Security Forum. In 2022, he became the recipient of the European Union Studies Association Haas Fund Fellowship.
