El-Erian Institute Studentships 2021-22

The Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS) is pleased to announce the availability of three new PhD studentships, funding full-time 3-year doctoral degrees in either Politics and International Studies, Development Studies or Gender Studies at the University of Cambridge.

These studentships are generously funded by the El-Erian Institute to support our most promising postgraduate students with research topics associated with human behaviour and decision making in markets and other social institutions.

Each studentship will cover fees and maintenance at the standard Research Council rate for three years. The studentships will be merit-based, and available to students from the UK, EU and Overseas. All students who are offered a place on the PhD course will be considered, whilst no separate application is required, candidates must indicate their interest when applying.

El-Erian PhD fellowship in Behavioural Economics and Sustainability Policy

POLIS invites applications for a PhD fellowship for research at the interface of behavioural economics and sustainability policy. The successful candidate will begin in the POLIS PhD program in October 2021 and work on a project exploring how cognitive and social mechanisms shape the effectiveness of climate change mitigation policies. A particular emphasis is on behavioural anomalies inducing adverse side-effects of sustainable interventions. Ideally, the candidate will have a demonstrated background in behavioural science, economics, or a related discipline. Research experience in the field of behavioural economics and/or sustainable policy is desirable. Familiarity with both quantitative and qualitative methods is necessary.

The studentships will cover fees and maintenance at the standard Research Council rate for 3 years. The studentship will be merit-based, and available to students from the UK, EU and Overseas. Application is through the usual admissions process for the POLIS PhD. Please indicate in your application that you wish to be considered for the El-Erian PhD fellowship in Behavioural Economics and Sustainability Policy.

The course start date is October 2021. The deadline for applications is 7 January 2021. More information on the course can be found on the Graduate Admissions website.
