Module Title: The Unmaking of the Middle East from October 2023  - and its Remaking?

Overview:

The course is an attempt to understand the scale of change in the Middle East since 7th October 2023, with the series of conflicts that escalated across the region. Its purpose is not to give a narrative account of developments over the past two years, but instead to set recent developments in historical and theoretical context – and that will be done through engaging with some of the themes that have come to prominence over this time. It will look to future possibilities: is a new political order being created in the region, and if so, how resilient can it be?
