In Part I of the HSPS Tripos students take four papers. The introductory Politics paper is POL1, The modern state and its alternatives, and the introductory International Relations paper is POL2, International Conflict, Order and Justice. For those students interested in continuing in the Politics and International Relations stream we recommend that they take both POL1 and POL2. The third and fourth papers can be chosen from the rest of the list of papers. The Part I handbook gives more detail of these other papers. The paper guides for POL1 and POL2 are below.

Part I Handbook 2016-17
- The Handbook is published each academic year and provides students with detailed information on all aspects of the Part I course.
There are two CamTools sites where students can access resources for the papers (you will need to log on via Raven). The SPS Library site allows you to access electronic journals and has copies of a number of electronic versions of reading list material. The HSPS Part I site has a range of useful non copyrighted materials including lecture handouts as well as a forum for student discussion. It is important that students check they have access to both sites.
