Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS)

 

In the first year, Part I of the HSPS Tripos or Part IA of History and Politics Tripos, students take four papers. The Politics paper is POL1, The modern state and its alternatives, and the International Relations paper is POL2, International Conflict, Order and Justice. HSPS students interested in continuing in the Politics and International Relations track should take both POL1 and POL2. History & Politics students take both papers. For HSPS students, the third and fourth papers can be chosen from the rest of the list of papers. History and Politics students take Evidence and Argument, and one further History paper taken from this list. Please note that from 2023-24 papers POL1 and POL2 will be returning to assessment via a three-hour, in-person examination (the usual adjustments will be made for those students who require additional time for exams). More information will follow in Michaelmas term.
