In the first year, Part I of the HSPS Tripos or Part IA of History and Politics Tripos, students take four papers. The Politics paper is POL1 The modern state and its alternatives and the International Relations paper is POL2 International Conflict, Order and Justice. Paper descriptions for POL1, POL2 and the other HSPS papers can be found on the HSPS website.
HSPS students interested in continuing in the Politics and International Relations track should take both POL1 and POL2. The third and fourth papers can be chosen from the rest of the list of papers.
