Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS)

Undergraduate Feedback and Complaints

Student feedback is very important to the Department. At the end of Lent term each year, we circulate a questionnaire to all POLIS students to ask for their views on the courses they have taken, their supervisors, and their general experience of the degree programme. The response from student feedback for 2022-23 is available here

There are three undergraduate representatives who express the student perspective on the Department's Undergraduate Education Committee.

The student reps for 2022-23 are:

  • Flora Thurston (fmt26) Part IIB Politics and International Relations, Murray Edwards
  • Adnaan Ilyas (ai386) Part IB History and Politics, King’s
  • Holly Sheridan (hs799) Part IIA Politics and International Relations, Queens’

If you have any issues you would like the POLIS student reps to raise, please contact them.

We always welcome feedback, not just in the official questionnaire. If you have any difficulties with the courses and the supervisions, you should in the first instance talk to your Director of Studies. If the issue cannot be resolved by your Director of Studies, you can contact the Director of Undergraduate Education, Dr Giovanni Mantilla.  Complaints need to be raised in a timely way and within 28 days to ensure an effective remedy can be put in place. Find further information here.

Lectures and supervisions rely upon an atmosphere of trust and respect that is upheld by both the supervisor and the students. If this is not being upheld, it is important to take steps immediately. If you do not wish to take action through your College, it may be useful to contact POLIS’s Wellbeing Officer, Alice Jondorf. You can email her on

The University takes all instances of harassment and sexual misconduct extremely seriously. More information about these issues can be found on the Breaking the Silence website. We strongly encourage you to report harassment, bullying, discrimination or sexual misconduct via this website. There is further information about the complaints process here.
