Abstract

Spain–UK Relations: Strategic Partners in a Challenging Global Landscape

In an era marked by geopolitical uncertainty, economic transformation, and global realignment, Spain and the United Kingdom stand as enduring partners committed to shared values and strategic cooperation. This talk explores the evolving nature of the Spain–UK relationship, tracing its trajectory from post-Brexit adaptation to the new bilateral framework that now anchors political, economic, and cultural ties between both nations. It will examine key areas of collaboration—from trade, investment, and energy transition to defence, education, and science—highlighting how both countries are working together to address global challenges such as climate change, digitalisation, and security threats. By analysing recent diplomatic developments and the role of both nations within the European and transatlantic context, the discussion will underscore how Spain and the UK are not merely historical allies, but strategic partners shaping a more stable, sustainable, and interconnected world.
