When?

Our research experience internships run for 6 weeks from 3 July – 11 August 2023

What does it involve?

Whilst you're here, you'll undertake a research project, supervised by world-leading academics in our extensive facilities. During the internship you'll:

  • receive a stipend equivalent to the Real Living Wage for the six-week programme

  • stay in free accommodation in Cambridge provided by Gonville & Caius College

  • enhance your research and transferable skills

  • meet leading researchers and staff

  • receive advice on opportunities for further study and research careers

  • receive information on how to make a competitive application for postgraduate study in the humanities and social sciences

Who can apply?

Applications are open to those ordinarily resident in the UK who are currently in the penultimate year of an undergraduate degree at a UK or Irish university. Talented students who do not have the opportunity for significant research experience will benefit most from the programme. Applicants will be selected based on their academic achievement and potential in the context of their education to date.

You’ll need to check that you meet the SHARE eligibility criteria before you apply for the programme.

How do I apply?

To apply, you will need to complete our online application form by 9am on Monday 27 February. You don't have to fill it all in at once and you can come back to it at any time before the deadline.

Find out more at our live webinars for prospective applicants which will provide information about the application process, the research projects and the opportunity to ask questions. Register to attend a webinar on our webpages.

2023 research areas

The SHARE programme aims to enhance diversity and inclusiveness within the humanities and social sciences at Cambridge, and in UK academia more broadly through improved access to research experience. Four of these placements are funded by the ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council) and will be hosted by the Cambridge ESRC Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP).
